The Story
Paradiso, being the third and concluding part of Dante’s Divine Comedy, depicts heaven, through which he is guided by Beatrice. Il Paradiso creates its own piece of heaven. The authenticity of scale, proportion and detail is apparent upon entering the grounds through iron gates. Up a stone paved drive through oak and olive groves to the large Motor Court, carved out of the steep hillside, the large water feature reflecting off the glass and iron entry doors invite you in to stay. Inside vaulted ceilings with Venetian chandeliers, stone floors inlaid with terra-cotta keys, stone mantels, Tuscan columns and skylights festooned in silk evoke the splendid detail of Renaissance Italy. The Master Suite, through a separate sitting room/Library, features a marble-and-gold bath with a sunken spa tub with a view to a secret walled garden. Each of the main rooms flow through French doors to the grand central Loggia with views out to elaborate Gardens below and ocean beyond. The Villa was designed to look and feel as though it reigned supreme for generations of fortunate owners.
Il Paradiso
“Il Paradiso began as a total remodel of an existing contemporary home. The design is a reverential recreation of the Casino at Villa Farnese in Caprarola, Italy – considered the best examples of its type. While the owner was a designer in his own right and had principal input in the design process, BDS’s collaborated in the design and was responsible for executing all aspects of the exterior and interior architecture, design and detailing. The primary challenge was to site a 55-foot pool, necessitating massive walls to retain the terrace, resulting in a stunning vista to the pool and ocean.”
